Castle at Rogue’s Manor a treat for the eye

BEAVER—For the hundreds
who made the trek to Beaver to tour the
Castle at Rogue’s Manor, it was time well
spent on a balmy Saturday afternoon. Hours
could be whiled away studying the
fascinating structures, inside and out, as
well as enjoying the panoramic vistas from
the numerous windows or wandering the
grounds of the estate.
Smith Treuer, owner of the property, was on
hand to greet visitors, along with artist
Larry Mansker and sculptor Mel Shipley.
Shipley designed a magnificent bronze
mantelpiece with Treuer’s face depicted in
the center between several fire-breathing
dragons.
The Gatekeeper’s House is a finished work
that is the prototype for the Great Hall
which is under construction. Both buildings
feature beautifully intricate woodwork and
fine detailing. In the Gatekeeper’s House,
an almost surreal stairway winds its way to
the top of the structure, and regal
trappings adorn the rooms. The Great Hall
sits on a bluff with a commanding western
view overlooking the village of Beaver and
Table Rock Lake below. Patriot’s Herald May
