Eureka Springs, Ark. – Eureka Springs, Arkansas has a new celebrity! Oscar Pryor
Wiener, that dashing dachshund about
town, returns home from the 14th
Annual Wiener Dog National race to an
enthusiastic parade in his honor on Tuesday,
July 31st at 5:30 PM. The parade
route will start at the Post Office on
Spring Street and end at the Pied Piper Pub.
Due to his svelte stance and energetic
personality, O.P. Wiener was invited
to race with other nationally renowned
dachshunds at The Woodlands Raceway in
Kansas City, Kansas at the 2007 event held
July 27th - 29th . As
of press time, proud parents Karen and Tom
Pryor, along with the other 2000+ citizens
of Eureka Springs are eagerly anticipating
the news that our very own Oscar Pryor
Wiener is indeed "a wiener!" and is
bringing home the 2007 Wiener Dog National
Championship.
The homecoming "Wiener Walk"
will feature canine pals parading down
Spring Street with their parents and
friends, along with local personalities and
other hot-dogging citizens, music and fun.
There will be no motorized vehicles in the
parade, and of course, all participants are
encouraged to dress according to the spirit
of the event. Mayor Dani Wilson will
proclaim the day as "Oscar Pryor Wiener
Day" and the Pryors, the first family of
the day, will ride as Grand Marshals as they
escort parade participants and watchers to
Pied Piper Pub for an outdoor
reception featuring chili dogs, soft drinks
and Flying Dog beer.
Last year's Wiener Dog National attracted
over eleven thousand enthusiastic fans to
cheer the field of 64 super-athletic wiener
dogs. Oscar Pryor Wiener certainly
has his work cut out for him as he has
already won out in a field of 425
competitors to race with 64 semi-finalists.
A win in his next qualifying race will earn
him a run with seven other finalists for the
coveted Wiener's Circle.
Parade entry fees are $1 per person - human
or animal. In the spirit of community, entry
fees along with proceeds from OP Weinter
t-shirt sales will be generously donated to
The Good Shepherd Animal Shelter as a
gift from Oscar Pryor Wiener. Pre-event
t-shirts will be available at The
Auditorium. Proceeds from chili-dog sales
will be donated to Main Stage Community
Center.
